Arthritis and Total Joint Replacement
The impact of arthritis on an individual and that person's family can be devastating. Advanced arthritis of the hip and or knee is accompanied by increasing pain, which becomes relentless. The affected joint stiffens with loss of mobility and function, ultimately causing the loss of functional independence.
Arthritis affects millions of Canadians, with an estimated 3 million people suffering from this disease in Ontario alone. Arthroplasty (Total Joint Replacement) is THE success story in the fight against arthritis. This procedure is usually reserved for those people for whom all medical and physical measures have failed to give relief and restore function.
What It's All About
The 13th Annual Day in Arthroplasty is a non-profit community education initiative hosted by the Hamilton Arthroplasty Group, Hamilton Health Sciences Juravinski Hospital.
The aim of the „Day in Arthroplasty‟ is to empower people suffering from arthritis to make important informed decisions about their own health care. This annual community education initiative is unique in Canada. Over the last 12 years the Annual Day In Arthroplasty has touched the lives of nearly 10,000 people with attendance growing each year. For our 13th Annual we anticipate an audience of 800-1000 guests!
The Day is comprised of a series of presentations from all members of the health care team involved in caring for total joint replacement patients, including: Orthopaedic Surgeons, Anesthetists, Nurses, allied health care professionals, and above all, feedback from patients who have previously undergone total hip and total knee replacement surgery.
Multiple interactive displays are also exhibited by allied health care professionals and contributing sponsors to enhance the educational experience.
The overall focus is to educate and empower patients, as well as the general public, about total joint replacement surgery. The Annual Day In Arthroplasty is a powerful community event, which WILL dramatically improve the quality of many peoples‟ lives.
